If you’ve been following this week’s Tour of California through race recaps or Twitter updates, you know that the Argyle Armada is often quoted by the media – or asked to write first-person perspectives. With two stages down and crazy days ahead, here are a few recent excerpts from Team Garmin:
For starters, the always
quotable Dave Zabriskie will keep his fans entertained while blogging
for USA Today: “I am now a resident of this great state, so this
is truly my home race. Some of the biggest names in cycling are here;
guys we compete with all over Europe are now on our home turf.”
Monday, Team CEO Jonathan Vaughters commented on a soggy Stage 2 that put Zabriskie, Tom Danielson, Ryder Hesjedal (8th today) and Peter Stetina within 10 seconds of the overall lead: “Tour of Cali is shaping up about as expected. A group of 28 came in to Santa Rosa today, making the first GC selection of the race. Garmin-Transitions and Radio Shack had the largest representations in this front group with 4 and 5 riders respectively, setting up the GC war to come.”
Twitter brought us 140-character-or-less post-race ponderings from Steve Cozza: “Lots of crashes today. I saw like 25 diff crashes today in the rain. I too lost some skin going down trinity.I felt strong.” and Stetina: “Rain+twisty descents+fogged glasses= mortally damaged brake pads. I gotta remember to drink in rainy stages.”
And we’ll let Zabriskie sign off for us as we agree completely: “I could sit here and type a million words about how excited I am about this race, but DZ needs to get his rest.”
